Blood Pressure Screening - First Wednesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - HCR Manor Care Health Services will be at the library to do blood pressure checks.

Conversation Salon - Second and fourth Wednesday each month @ 1 p.m. Come and join us for a special group meeting to discuss current events. To learn more click here.

Game Day for ADULTS! - Thursdays / Noon - 3 p.m. Join fellow game lovers in our Second Chapter Cafe for an afternoon of fun. Play Scrabble, Mahjong, Rummikub, Pictionary, Uno, Scattegories, Dominoes and more! You don't have to be an expert to play and you will meet new friends and have an enjoyable time. Just stop in!

  The Library's Winter Reading Club may be just the thing to keep you warm during the months of January, February and March.

  Each time you read a book, simply return it with a completed entry form. A prize will be raffled off at the end of each month. That's it!

AARP TAX HELP

COMING HOME TO THE BODY - Movement, Meditation, Relaxation, and Integration

Are you feeling stressed, tired, impatient, or stale?     Are you living with aches and pains?

Attending Coming Home to the Body will provide you with tools to counteract your discomfort, whether physical, mental, or emotional.  The classes use breathing techniques, simple movements from yoga, a bit of anatomical awareness, and deepening body consciousness to reduce postural restrictions and provide lightness and freedom for your entire body, mind, and spirit.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Mark Taylor is a somatic movement therapist who directs the Center for Body Mind Movement, with training programs in Pittsburgh, PA, Eugene, OR, and Mexico City. As a choreographer he founded Mark Taylor & Friends in New York, directed Dance Alloy in Pittsburgh, PA, and was on the dance faculties of Princeton University and the University of Limerick, Ireland. He was the U.S. Program Director and Program Coordinator for the School for Body-Mind Centering and co-directs the Embodied Performing Arts Program with Katy Dymoke in London, U.K. Taylor teaches movement workshops and embodiment practices in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Central and South America, maintains a private movement therapy practice in Pittsburgh, and is a director of the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA). He teaches yoga at the Himalayan Institute of Pittsburgh.

Sessions are FREE - Online registration is required.

T'AI CHI CLASSES

FILLED - Friday, March 23 & 30 and April 13 & 20 @ 7:00 PM

T'ai Chi is an ancient Chinese form of exercise that blend physical movement with deep meditative breathing in order to boost energy, cultivate physical and emotional balance, and instill a sense of spiritual and physical well-being.

Rhett Lauffenburger from Rothrocks Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy in West Mifflin will teach four classes on the art of Tai Chi.

Registration is required and the cost of $20.00 per person is due at that time. No refunds. Please sign up at the library's front desk. Space is limited.

ADULT YOGA CLASSES

Interested in learning Yoga?

  • Cost is $5.00 per class, payable to the instructor at the door.
  • Participants are required to register for the entire series / Space is limited

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:  Ashley Greco, Registered Yoga Teacher-RYT through the Yoga Alliance, received her training through the 3rd Street Yoga Teacher Training program. She has taken workshops from Kino MacGregor and has studied with Joanne Vandenhengel among other Pittsburgh area teachers. Ashley has always been involved with dance and fitness throughout her life but discovered yoga six years ago while seeking a balance between her personal and professional life. Yoga has truly changed her physically and mentally. Ashley decided to become an instructor in order to share her passion and experiences with others as well as show how yoga can help change your life. Ashley’s classes infuse a mix of Hatha and vinyasa style yoga while focusing on exploring strength, flexibility, and balance through postures and breathe work.
