Little STEAMers

New activities posted every other Friday. Ages 3-6. Combines fun rhymes and songs with a STEAM activity, an early literacy activity, a math activity, a craft and book recommendations. These activities are designed to help prepare your 3 – 6 year old child for school success

Hooray for Spring!

For this Little STEAMers, kids will explore rainbows by making a kaleidoscope and doing a Skittles experiment. We will focus on Uu for Umbrella and do some color sorting and counting with Fruit Loops. For the craft, kids will make a rainbow necklace!

Starting March 18th, call the library and reserve your Activity Packet to be picked up. Activity packets are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Let’s Go Fly a Kite!

For this Little STEAMers, kids will be making two kites from a single sheet of paper, focusing on the letter Kk for Kites, making a shape book, and a windsock for the craft.

Three Billy Goats Gruff

Kids will listen to the story of the Three Bill Goats Gruff and build a bridge tall enough to cross over without encountering the troll! The letter will be Ff for Fairy Tale and we will play with cut out numbers and dragons. The craft is a paper plate troll.

Valentine’s Day

In this Little STEAMers program, children will make a bubble painting and a Valentine Squish Bag and watch some fun Fizzy Hearts! Focus will be on the letter Vv for Valentine and learning to recognize numbers 1 – 6. Kids will also make a fun Heart Monster Craft.

Let it Roll!

Little STEAMers: Ramps! Starts Jan 25

Join us as we explore the simple machine inclined plane or ramps! We will be making ramps using some common easy to find materials and see if we can roll or slide objects down them, learning about the letter R for Ramps, measuring how far things will roll down a ramp, and making a craft!

There is no registration required for this event; however, activity packets are available on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to call the library 412-882-6622 to request a packet. Penguins!

Join us as we explore the world of penguins – where they live and what they eat! We will be making a paper plate penguin diorama, learning about the letter A for Antartica, exploring things that are the same and things that are different, and making a paper tube penguin craft!
